Need a little fun today after a stressful week.   Rather than throwing up on Throwback Thursday, I thought I would throw up this post instead … har.

eemusings at NZ Muze gave me this idea for what I call a blog time capsule.   She wrote her post in 2009, predicting her future in 5 years which is now, 2014.

I won’t wait 50 years like the time capsule in the picture.  5 years is a good number of years to wait because it also coincides with the year I want to be debt-free.

That’s right, consumer HELOC debt, mortgage debt, car debt (that one might be tricky) – all of Debs Debt (which includes the Irishman’s debt but we won’t start pointing fingers).

I know many of the blogs I read are already past their DF-day or much closer than I am.  Of course I am happy for you and will look forward to your countdowns in anticipation.  It will only make our own DF-day so much sweeter.  I look forward to that day so much!!  One foot in front of the other…. #WE-WILL-GET-THERE

So with respect to the time capsule, I’ve used most of eemusings questions and added one with my own at the end.  I wanted to be super creative but found her questions were things I want to know from my future self so here goes!  Play along with your own time capsule on your blog.

Current Self:  OK Future Self, answer these questions about how you are living your life 5 years from now.  Then mark yourself in 5 years to see if you got these right or wrong.

Future Self:  Is this like a test? I don’t like tests.  I’m already getting worried about my blood sugar test, my colonoscopy, my driver’s test …

Current Self:  Well it’s not that kind of test.  It’s a fun test.

Future Self:   Well if you think this is fun, you’re gonna laugh yer a$$ off when you get back to the future.

Ahem… it appears this little game is wreaking havoc on my phased self.  Without further ado …

1.What time do you wake up, and how are you feeling as you greet the day? I wake up at 6, get on the computer from my bed and blog until it’s time to get ready for work.  I feel good because the Irishman brings me coffee and breakfast and it’s a great way to slowly wake up and start my day.  No change predicted and I hope I am right.

2. Where are you? If you’re at home, what does it look like? I am still in my home, except now it is fully paid for!  It looks pretty bad because it is in bad need of a makeover, but don’t you fret, that’s what the next couple of years are for – work and save money for renos in kitchen, bathrooms, bedroom.  This is the goal of the Irishman to remain in our home.  It is not so much my goal, but one I said I would go along with on the premise that we re-evaluate each year.

3. Who is with you? The Irishman and a standard poodle rescue dog who we have yet to meet.  We lost ours in 2013 and said we were not going to get another but I think it is just a matter of time because we miss him so much.  Besides, if I’m gonna stay in the house with the big yard, I might as well have a dog.  Budget or no budget… life without a dog is just not fun living.

4. What kind of work are you doing? (if you have no idea what kind of work you’ll be doing or want to be doing, list the qualities you want to find in the work you do and the kind of work environment you want.) I’m in the home stretch towards retirement.  I’m in a position where I can make some choices soon.  I’m either enjoying my job and figure I will make it a little more than 2 years more or I am starting the countdown in my head.

5. How do you get to work?  I drive my green Mazda 2 zoom zoom.  I ride my bike 1 or 2 days in the summer.  I work from home 1 or 2 days per week.

6. How will you spend you spare time and with whom? What activities do you enjoy?  I spend my time with The Irishman, my doggie, my grandson lots and lots, my 4 children and my sisters and their families.  I  have another grandchild and it’s a girl but I don’t spend any time with her LOL – not!  Also my circle of friends is still around and for that I am thankful.  I continue to walk outside for about an hour 3-4 days per week in the nicer weather and I’ve taken up indoor exercise in the winter months instead of stagnating like I used to.

7. What is your evening like?  Walky-walks with the pooch, light supper then blog and read.  TV is not such a big part of my life anymore.

8. When you go to bed at night, how are you feeling after your day? I’m exhausted but that’s nothing new.  Happy about another day done, living responsibly, loving Jesus and thankful for God’s mercy.

9. What are you most grateful for and what are you looking forward to as you go to sleep?  I am thankful for my family and friends in my life.  I am thankful for the positive changes that I’ve made in my life including my cleaning up our financial mess, de-cluttering of possessions and further growth in my spirituality.

10. What positive thing is going on in your life now that was not at all started or maybe even fathomed five years ago?  I’m still writing this blog!! he he he

  1. Oh what a great idea! I’ll get working on that – I have been looking backwards so it will be a nice change to look into the future. ~ May~

    • Yes, May ~ we need to have fun with these things to keep things interesting while we debt slay away. But always to remember to be kind to ourselves, as long as we’re not making excuses that lead to bad decisions. 😉

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  3. Hmmm interesting idea. I’ve been finding it hard to set goals or envision what I’d like beyond the one year mark, maybe I need this exercise.

    • Thanks Stefanie! Maybe you should try it! It seems that PF bloggers do a good job and setting net worth and other monetary goals. Putting personal projections but with no pressure, seemed like a fun thing to do.

  4. Love this, Deb! Best of luck to you with all of your goals, and kudos to you guys on having the house paid for!

    • Thank you, Laurie. The house will be fully paid for in about 5 years, all going to plan. Cash flow wise, we should have paid for it long ago but kept running up LoC and credit card debt that we kept refinancing against our home equity, oh I’d say at least 3, maybe 4, possibly 5 times!! So ridiculous, and each time we swore we would not let it happen again. The seriously can’t remember how many times because it’s all a blur and I can’t be bothered to try to figure it out, because it’s wasted energy at this point. It is what it is, and the good news is that this time we are actually executing against our goals instead of just wishing for them. Kinda a novel concept, duh! 😉

    • Yes, me too! Hopefully we’ll make it to be debt free by then. I would prefer it to be only 3, otherwise the double quotes experts say you experience debt fatigue. What, am I saying? I’d actually prefer it to be next week.
